- Melissa began her career in 2006, after graduating with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Queensland. Her work has taken her to Sydney, London, Turkey and now home again, bringing 10 years of experience, to continue her passion of working with children and families. Melissa has worked with children aged 0-18 years with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, physical, intellectual, hearing, and/or visual impairments. She has also worked with adults in aged care, hospital and community settings. Melissa worked in London in a specialized behaviour modification school with children with severe autism. She has also worked in Turkey with children with Autism to provide assessment and programming, and to educate caregivers and teachers on intervention strategies and current research. She has more recently been working in private practice with children with a wide range of ages, developmental difficulties, and/or challenging behaviours. Melissa prefers to work with children between the ages of 4 and 9 years old, with behavioural and communication difficulties, sensory processing challenges, motor skill delays, and functional difficulties including handwriting. Melissa works collaboratively with families to define relevant goals and therapy options targeted to improve their child’s ability to participate in daily activities. Melissa utilises a range of cognitive, behavioural and sensory strategies in her therapy, and tends to be ‘play based’ in her interventions, but can have a firm style as needed.
